School Sports Roundup: Peabody softball remains unbeaten on Senior Day

The Peabody softball team celebrated Senior Day by staying undefeated in a tight 3-2 home win against Saugus Monday night.

Gina Terrazzano had the big bat for the Tanners, lacing a two-run home run in the fourth inning to power Peabody to the win. 

Abby Bettencourt also hit a solo home run in the win. Bettencourt pitched all seven innings, allowing two hits and a walk and striking out seven.

Peabody (12-0) hosts Marblehead Wednesday (4).

SOFTBALL

Marblehead 10, Masconomet 0

Pitcher Lauren Donovan gave up one hit and struck out eight to lead the Magicians. Abby Schawartz did her part as well, going 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBI. Jolie Quintana had two RBI as did Madi Monahan who had a great day defensively as well. Amelia Rogers (2-for-3) and Maeve Sogoloff (2-for-4) also played well

Marblehead (5-5) is at Peabody Wednesday (4). 

BASEBALL

Gloucester 5, Marblehead 4

Marblehead out hit Gloucester nine to eight despite the loss. Shane Keough laced a solo home run in the seventh while Charlie Titus and Godot Gaskins each had two hits.

Albino Neto started for the Magicians but struggled early and gave up five earned runs. Junior Bjorn Pluss pitched two innings allowing one hit with two strikeouts.

The Magicians (10-3) are at Salem Wednesday (4).

St. John’s Prep 10, Catholic Memorial 3

The Eagles were led at the plate by Pat D’Amico who had three RBI and two runs scored. Peyton Palladino added two RBI and three runs while Nicholas Solitro had two RBI and one run. Chris Durks and Quinn Perkins each had one RBI.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Bishop Fenwick 18, St. Mary’s 6

The Spartans got four goals from Hannah Coleman and one each from Makayla McGrath and Avery Laundry despite the loss.

St. Mary’s hosts Matignon Wednesday (5).

Fenwick hosts Austin Prep Wednesday (4).

Marblehead 16, Gloucester 0

Hadley Wales had a big game with three goals, three assists and three ground balls. Maddie Erskine (two assists), Molly Forbes (two assists, two ground balls) and Abby Kalinowski (one assist) also had three goals each. Gigi Lombardi had two goals and two ground balls while Lucy Wales and Fehr Gillett each scored one goal. Elizabeth Driscoll had four saves.

Marblehead (7-3) is at Peabody Saturday (10).

GIRLS TENNIS

Marblehead 4, Saugus 1

Freshman Maddie Conlon stepped up in third singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win and Tess Keaney won second singles (6-1, 6-3).

Emily Clough and Lauren Podgur (6-1, 6-0) and Ava Ullian and Leah Saulnier (6-1, 6-0) swept doubles play.

Marblehead (9-2) is at Beverly Tuesday (4).

Saugus’ lone win came from Lanna Queiroz (6-2, 6-1).

WRESTLING

St. John’s Prep

The National High School Coaches Association has released its Academic All-American (AAA) team for 2021 and six Prep wrestlers made the cut. Nick Curley (four-time AAA), Adam Schaeublin (two-time AAA) and Rawson Iwanicki (two-time AAA) all received the honor again along with Tyler Knox, Alex Schaeublin and Trevor Fecko.

To be nominated, students must have a minimum 3.6 GPA and a state medal in their careers. This year’s six honorees bring the Eagles all-time total to 84.
