The Lynn Classical softball team split a double header Wednesday, continuing an unbeaten streak in the Greater Boston League at Malden while dropping a non-league night game to visiting Danvers.
During the first game the Ram got a 20-8 win in five innings with Brook Warren and Mekayla Poisson splitting time on the mound. Izzy Faessler (2-for-3) the big bat for Classical with six RBI.
Before the night game, Warren was awarded the Vanessa Masucci Scholarship.
Despite a 7-0 loss to the Falcons, Warren pitched a complete game, allowing five earned runs with eight strikeouts. Faessler had the Rams only hit.
Classical (5-3, 5-0 in GBL) is at English Friday (4).
SOFTBALL
Peabody 9, Marblehead 8
Avery Grieco pitched 5 and 2/3 innings while Abby Bettencourt came in to close the game out and give the Tanners the win. Grieco (2-for-3) and Sabelle Bettencourt (2-for-4) each laced a three-run home run while Logan Lomasney had a two-run homer to power Peabody’s offense. Kylie Doolin scored one run.
Peabody finishes the regular season at 13-0 and waits for state tournament seeding.
BOYS LACROSSE
Swampscott 19, Winthrop 9
Jack Russo led the way with eight goals for the Big Blue. Zach Pierce had three goals, three assists and three saves. Christian Pierro had two goals and two assists, Timmy Sheehan had a goal and an assist, Jayson Codispoti had a goal, Christian Urbano had two goals and three assists and Charlie Hammernick had three assists. Jack Herlihy and Carson Palmer each had a goal while Vinny Palmer added an assist. Aidan Breault had 12 saves.
Swampscott (9-3) is at Salem Friday (4).
Austin Prep 14, Bishop Fenwick 6
Despite the loss, Aiden Anthony and Manny Alvarez-Segee each had two goals. Stefano Fabiano had a goal and two assists while Liam Hill had a goal. Max Grenert and Kevin Wood each had an assist. George Kostolias had nine saves.
Fenwick (8-5) is at St. Mary’s Friday (7) for the quarterfinal round of the CCL Cup.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Saugus 9, Salem 1
Haley McLaughlin led the way with five goals for the Sachems. Georgia Fiore, Marissa Patterson, Violet Hawley and Tayla Walsh each had a goal while Nadine Taboubi played well.
Saugus is at Gloucester Thursday (4:30).
St. Mary’s 20, Matignon 10
Avery Laundry and Molly Cummings each scored five goals to lead the way for the Spartans, while Hannah Coleman added four goals.
Prior to the game, the Spartans honored their group of four seniors — Michelle Callahan, Makayla McGrath, Zoey Bozarjian and Eliza Brown — for their contributions to the program over the years.
St. Mary’s takes on Bishop Stang in the first round of the CCL Cup Thursday afternoon (3) at Gordon College.
BOYS TENNIS
Lynnfield 4, Manchester-Essex 1
The Pioneers got wins from Jamil Khodr (6-1, 6-0) and Devin Levin (6-1, 6-2) in singles and in doubles by David Kasdon and Jason Yang (6-3, 7-6, 7-4) and Rafik Khodr and Russell Kasdon (6-1, 7-6, 7-4).
Lynnfield (8-0) hosts Pentucket Monday (3:30).
GIRLS TENNIS
Classical 3, Malden 2
Kensie McLaren came through for the Rams, winning a tough, three-hour first singles match (5-7, 6-3, 6-4) just a few hours after receiving her second COVID-19 vaccine to help boost Classical to the win. Alyssa Raithal remained unbeaten on the year with a win in second singles (6-3, 6-2) while Rania Merbah and Samantha Theoun won first doubles (6-3, 6-2).
Classical (5-0) is at Lynn English Friday.
BOYS TRACK
North Reading 110, Lynnfield 30
Despite the loss, Lynnfield got wins from Joey Badger (Triple Jump, 38-0) and Mike Madden (800m, 2:14.8). Second-place finishers were James Considine (200m, 23.8), Dean Bey (High Jump, 5’6″), Nick Marcinowski (Shot put, 37-11) and Joe Cucciniello (100m, 11.6).
Lynnfield finishes the regular season at 2-5 and travels to Pentucket High School on Saturday to compete in the Cape Ann League Meet.
GIRLS TRACK
Classical 53, Medford 45
The Rams got wins from Ava Correnti (javelin), Kali Mertsiotis (shot put), Ashley Hughes (discus) and Mia Kebreau (long jump).
Classical (2-1) has a tri-meet with English and Somerville Friday (4).
