LYNN — Ray Deihl-Butterworth, who will be 5 at the end of June, set up a lemonade stand at Red Rock Park on Wednesday to raise money for victims who lost their homes from the two-alarm fire on Lafayette Park last week.
Ray started tee-ball this year and his coach, John Smith, who is also the league organizer, was one of the victims of the fire, losing everything.
Ray’s mom, Amy Butterworth, said when Ray found out “he was visibly sad and kept asking how we can help.”
Amy said her son was inspired by his cousin’s lemonade stand in Maine, so he started to plan his own to give all the money to his coach.
“Coach John has dedicated his life to mentoring youth in sports, and it’s a way to return the care and support he’s shown to so many families,” Amy said.
Amy said Ray was happy to help and is thankful for the number of visitors he had at his lemonade stand, as well as the assistance from his 1-year-old brother Reggie.
Ray has raised over $1,000 so far and hopes to do another lemonade stand soon.
Donations can still be made through a GoFundMe page and through Amy’s venmo @amybutter and PayPal [email protected] with the note “lemonade” attached.
