LYNN — After keeping it close for much of the game, the Lynn Classical softball team put together eight runs over the final two innings to run away with a 12-0 win over rival Lynn English on Senior Day Friday afternoon at Breed Middle School.

Prior to the game, Classical honored its group of four seniors — Brooke Warren, Sailor Brinkler, Abby Fila and Kylie Poisson — for their contributions to the program over the years.

Abby Fila led the offensive attack for Classical, going 1-for-3 with two RBI. Mekayla Poisson went 1-for-2 with two RBI, while Kylie Poisson (1-for-4), Brooke Warren (1-for-3), Reese Brinkler (2-for-3) and Gianna Coito (1-for-1) each had an RBI.

Brooke Warren earned the win in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout and allowing four hits and 13 strikeouts.

For English, Kelsey McNeil, Ari Laboy and Jadi Perez all had hits in the loss.

The Rams struck first in this one, taking advantage of a couple English mistakes in the top of the first inning. It started when Kylie Poisson reached on an error with one out. After Kyle Poisson moved over to second on a passed ball, Rachel Dana hit a grounder and made it to first after an error by the first baseman. The error also allowed Kylie Poisson to come around and score, giving the Rams a 1-0 lead.

While Warren was stout in the circle and kept English off the scoreboard, Classical continued to add onto its lead over the next few innings. The Rams went ahead 2-0 after scoring on a passed ball in the top of the second inning, then Brinkler made it 3-0 in the top of the third when she knocked an RBI single into left field. Warren then went on to help her own cause in the top of the fifth, smacking an RBI single of her own to make it 4-0 Rams.

Classical really broke the game open in the top of the sixth, scoring a pair of runs on passed balls and getting an RBI single from Mekayla Poisson to stretch the lead out to 7-0.

In the seventh, the Rams rounded out the scoring with a two-run single from Fila and RBI hits from Mekayla Poisson, Kylie Poisson and Gianna Coito to make it a 12-0 game.

Warren remained stellar in the circle for the rest of the game, only allowing one hit over the final three innings of play to seal the win.

English takes on Chelsea in the opening round of the GBL Tournament Saturday (TBD).

Classical (6-3) will play Everett in the first round of the GBL Tournament Saturday (12).
