LYNN — A hazmat incident that followed a car crash on Boston Street Thursday evening was the result of a large amount of fentanyl found in the car, police said Friday.

One person was hospitalized following the collision near 162 Boston St., and drivers were urged to seek alternate routes as a “tier-1 hazmat response” was requested by the Department of Fire Services, according to the Lynn Fire Department.

A fire department spokesman confirmed Friday that initial tests on-scene indicated an unknown quantity of fentanyl, which was sent to a Massachusetts State Police laboratory for testing.
