LYNN — The St. Mary’s softball team took the next step in its quest for dominance this season, taking down Catholic Central League foe Cardinal Spellman by a score of 4-1 in the CCL Cup semifinal Sunday afternoon at Breed Middle School.
Jill Kirby notched two hits and two RBI to lead the Spartans’ offense, while Emely Rodriguez and Felicia D’Alessandro each had one RBI. On the defensive end, Angelina Catino and Julia Nickolau both turned double plays in the field.
Lily Newhall continued her strong season in the circle, tossing a complete game and striking out four batters.
St. Mary’s (18-2) moves on to the CCL Cup Final, where it will host either Arlington Catholic or St. Joseph’s Prep Tuesday (5) at Breed.
SOFTBALL
GBL Tournament Semifinal
Classical 7, Everett 4
Izzy Faessler went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Rachel Dana added two RBI of her own as the Rams rolled to a win Sunday afternoon. Kylie Poisson and Mekayla Poisson each went 3-for-4 with a run scored in the victory.
Brooke Warren earned the win on the mound, pitching a complete game and allowing four runs on nine hits with five strikeouts.
Classical (7-3) will take on Revere in the GBL Tournament Final Monday afternoon (4).
BASEBALL
Marblehead 10, Winthrop 0 (F/6)
Behind a seven-run outburst in the bottom of the second, the Magicians rolled to a big win at home Saturday.
Charlie Titus went 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBI to lead the Marblehead offense, while Schuyler Schmitt went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Godot Gaskins (1-for-3), Sami Loughlin (1-for-2), Shane Keough (1-for-3), Grant Hunter (1-for-1) and Andrew Titus (1-for-2) each had one RBI.
Albino Neto earned the win on the mound for the Magicians, tossing four innings and allowing just one hit with six strikeouts. Ian Maude and Damien King each pitched one inning of scoreless relief.
Marblehead (12-4) wraps up the regular season with a home game against Saugus Monday (4).
Salem 8, Beverly 3
Bobby Jellison earned the win on the mound after tossing a complete game Saturday, allowing three runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts.
Tommy Beauregard led the offensive attack for the Witches, going 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBI. Nicholas Balesta went 1-for-3 with two RBI, while Jon Wasserman (2-for-3) and Robert Palacios (0-for-3) each had one RBI.
Salem (4-10) hosts Danvers Monday (4) at Salem State University.
Catholic Conference Tournament Semifinal
BC High 2, St. John’s Prep 0 (F/8)
The Eagles could only scatter six hits across eight innings in the loss, with Payton Palladino, Christopher Dirks, DJ Pacheco, Shane Williams, Matt Mitchell and Gavin George each notching one hit.
Sam Belliveau took the tough-luck loss on the mound, pitching all eight innings and allowing two runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts.
St. John’s Prep finishes the regular season at 10-3 and awaits its seeding in the upcoming state tournament.
CCL Cup Semifinal
Arlington Catholic 2, Bishop Fenwick 1
Brandon Bloom went 1-for-2 with one RBI in the loss, while Dan Reddick and Costa Beechin each added one hit.
Anthony Marino took the loss on the mound after going the first 3 2/3 innings and allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts. Jack Vieira pitched the final 3 1/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts.
Fenwick wraps up the year at 8-11 and awaits its seeding in the state tournament.
BOYS LACROSSE
Marblehead 12, Peabody 3
Will Shull led the way for Marblehead, finishing with five goals and one assist in the win. Connor Cronin scored four goals, Matt Thompson had two goals and one assists and Eddie Johns scored his first career varsity goal. Josh Robertson added two assists, while Sam Annese had his first career varsity assist. Goalie J.T. Monahan made 10 saves.
For Peabody, Drew Lucas had one goal and one assist to pace the offense. Anthony Bettencourt and Tristan Ell each scored one goal, while Cam Collins and Luke Buckley each had one assist. Goalie Derek Patturelli had 12 saves in the loss.
Peabody (10-3) hosts Gloucester in its regular season finale Tuesday (4).
Marblehead (12-0) closes the regular season Tuesday (4) at home against Swampscott.
CCL Cup Semifinal
Bishop Fenwick 14, Bishop Feehan 12
The Crusaders punched their ticket to the CCL Cup Final with Sunday’s win, led by a four-goal, two-assist performance from Stefano Fabiano. Manny Alvarez-Segee had a massive game with three goals and six assists, while Liam Hill added three goals and one assist. Aiden Anthony scored three goals, while Anthony Sasso had one goal and two assists in the win. Goalie George Kostolias had 10 saves in the win.
Fenwick (10-5) moves on to the CCL Cup Final against Austin Prep OR Bishop Stang Tuesday (TBD).

St. John’s Prep 16, St. John’s (Shrewsbury) 5
Tommy Sarni had three goals and one assist for the Eagles, while Jimmy Ayers was close behind with two goals and three assists. Luke Surette added two goals and one assist, Tyee Ambrosh scored two goals, Charlie Wilmot had one goal and three assists and Michael Kelly had one goal and one assist. Pat Atkins, Lucas Verrier, Conan Keefe, Nolan Philpott and Matt Morrow each scored one goal, while goalies Kaden Quirk (three saves) and Mitchell Hodgson (six saves) split time in net.
St. John’s Prep (12-1) will take on BC High in the Catholic Conference Championship Monday afternoon (4).
GIRLS LACROSSE
Peabody 9, Marblehead 4
Behind three goals and two assists from Amber Kiricoples, the Tanners swept the season series against the Magicians on Saturday.
Hailie Lomasney added two goals and two assists in the win, while McKayla Fisher scored two goals. Hailey Baker and Siobhan Smith each scored one goal.
On the defensive side of things, Elise Staunton, Emily McDonough, Sam Silva, Jordyn Collins and Sophie Izzo all played well. Goalie Olivia Lavalle had seven saves.
Molly Forbes led the Marblehead offense with two goals, while Gigi Lombardi and Hadley Wales each scored one goal and Maddie Erskine added two assists. Goalie Elizabeth Driscoll made eight saves in the loss.
Marblehead (7-4) closes out its regular season Tuesday (4) on the road at Swampscott.
Peabody (9-4) wraps up the regular season Monday (4) at Gloucester.

Karina Gyllenhaal had two goals and one assist in the loss for the Crusaders, while Jenna Durkin added one assist. Paige Littlehale played well defensively, while goalie Caitlyn McKenzie made eight saves.
Fenwick closes the regular season at 10-3 and awaits its seeding in the state tournament.

St. John’s Prep 45, BC High 9
The Eagles got wins from Elias Jajali (132 pounds), Adam Schaeublin (138), Ethan Barnes Felix (145), Rawson Iwanicki (152), Jordan Young (160), Cam Cummings (170), Garrett Dunn (182) and Zach Richardson (220).
St. John’s Prep (13-0) wraps up its regular season Tuesday evening (6) against Ashland.
BOYS TRACK
Bishop Fenwick at CCL Championships
The Crusaders had three athletes win their respective events, with Ethan Tran taking the 100 (personal-best 11.53), Matthew Gerdenich taking the 800 (personal-best 2:05.82) and Aidan Dwyer taking the triple jump (personal-best 39-2 1/2).
Also placing well for Fenwick was Colby Browne in the 400 (second place – personal-best 52.9), Wyatt Burr in the one-mile (second place – 4:36.16) and Matt Juneau in the discus (second place – 114-8).

The top finisher on the day for the Spartans was Brett O’Brien, who finished second in both the javelin (121-8) and the high jump (5-8). Kyle Kwiatek finished third in the one-mile with a personal-best time of 4:42. Anthony D’Itria finished third in the high jump (5-6) before jumping a personal-best in the triple jump (37-7) to earn fourth place. Dylan Moroney finished fourth in the long jump (18-7), while the 4×100 team of Moroney, Jaiden Madden, Peyton Mahn and TJ Rowe finished sixth (50.23).
Lynnfield at CAL Championships
The Pioneers got placing performances from Joe Badger in the triple jump (fifth place – 39 feet, 6 inches), Joe Cucciniello in the 100-meter (fifth place – 11.72 seconds), James Considine in the 200 (sixth place – 24.81) and Mike Madden in the one-mile (fifth place – 4:47.60).
GIRLS TRACK
Bishop Fenwick at CCL Championships
Julia Loescher won two events to lead the way for Fenwick, taking first in the shot put (31-3 3/4) and the javelin (personal-best 95-2). Nasha Arnold added a win in the discus (personal-best 91-9), while Eliza Powers finished second in the 100 hurdles (personal-best 18.42) and Breanna Benoit finished second in the 100 (13.37).

Ava Benzan was the top finisher on the day for the Spartans, placing third in the javelin (91-1). Michelle Azzun finished fourth in the shot put (personal-best 27-1 1/2), while the 4×100 team of Aaliah Tejada Lara, Summer Marston, Grace Zimmerman and Juliana Taborda finished sixth (season-best 57.78).
Lynnfield at CAL Championships
April Luders, Jasmine Rose and Riley Hallahan were the stars of the day for the Pioneers. Luders finished second in the 100 hurdles (16.18), fourth in the 100 dash (13.185) and second in the 200 dash (27.77), while Hallahan finished second in the 400 (1:00.198), third in the discus (83-10) and fourth in the shot put (30-6). Rose notched fourth-place finishes in the 100 (13.222) and the 200 (28.213), while Lauren Braconnier placed second in the 400 (1:00.198).
