After play had been suspended during the rain on Monday, the Marblehead baseball team got the chance to finish its season on a high note Tuesday with a 2-0 win over Saugus.
While senior Jacob Sherf had started the game on Monday, junior reliever Bjorn Pluss got the win on the mound. Pluss, who threw a three-pitch inning Monday, ended with three innings pitched, one hit allowed, a walk and seven strikeouts. James Doody pitched a clean seventh inning to earn the save.
Both teams combined for just seven hits in the game, but it was Sami Loughlin who came through with an RBI double to drive home Schuyler Smith in the sixth inning.
Shane Keough had an RBI, scoring Loughlin on a fielder’s choice.
The Magicians (13-4) and Saugus both end the regular season and now wait for tournament seeding.
BASEBALL
Revere 12, Mystic Valley 2
The Patriots wrapped up the regular season with a win thanks to big days from sophomores Mike Popp (2-for-2, two walks, four RBI, one run scored) and Chris Cassidy (4-for-4, three RBI, four runs). Kasey Cummings also added a solo home run at the plate.
Dom Boudreau got the win on the mound with he and Pat Keefe combining to allow two runs, four hits and strike out eight across five innings.
Lynnfield 4, North Reading 3
The Balian brothers were the heroes for the Pioneers in a win Monday night with Evan (two hits, two RBI) lacing a walk-off home run in the seventh and Trent (seven innings, four strikeouts) picking up his fourth win of the year on the mound.
Mike Gentile also had three RBI in the Pioneers season finale as they await tournament seeding.
SOFTBALL
Everett 3, Classical 1
The Rams left the bases loaded in the first inning and stranded eight runs total in the loss. Kylie Poisson (2-for-4, double, triple) was the only Classical player with multiple hits.
Brooke Warren pitched all seven innings, allowing an earned run on six hits with seven strikeouts.
The Rams will hope to rebound in Wednesday’s (4) GBL Tournament Final at Revere.
BOYS LACROSSE
Peabody 15, Gloucester 4
Keenan Madden ended the year with a monster game, scoring five goals and dishing two assists. Drew Lucas had three goals and two assists while Anthony Bettencourt (two assists) and Jonathan Padios (one assist) each had two goals. Matt Bettencourt and Luke Buckley each had a goal and an assist. Tristan Ell had a goal and Scott Turner, Sam Izzo and Tyler Kalloo all had an assist. Derek Patturelli had seven saves.
Peabody ends the year at 11-3 and awaits tournament seeding.
BOYS TENNIS
Marblehead 3, Beverly 2
The Magicians got to conclude their regular season indoors at Bass River Tennis Club after a rainout Monday and made the most of it, clinching Northeast Conference Championship for the 14th year in a row.
Marblehead got the job done in singles play with freshman Mika Garber (first, 6-0, 6-0), junior Jack Donovan (second, 6-4, 6-4) and senior co-captain Daniel Farfel (third, 6-3, 6-3) powering the Magicians to victory.
