PEABODY — It was a picture-perfect day at Salem Country Club, as the North Shore Student-Athlete Recognition Program returned after a yearlong hiatus to honor the 2020-21 Moynihan Lumber Student-Athletes of the Year — Lily Athanas of Manchester-Essex and Kyle Odoy of Triton — with its annual luncheon Wednesday afternoon.

The North Shore Student-Athlete Recognition Program is a partnership between Moynihan Lumber and the Daily Item, Salem News, Newburyport Daily News, Gloucester Daily Times, MSONEWSPORTS.com and North Shore 104.9 FM and has been giving out monthly and yearly student-athlete awards since 1991-92.

This year’s winners, Athanas and Odoy, excelled on the field and in the classroom.

Odoy, who is attending the United States Naval Academy next year, was a three-sport standout at Triton. Odoy earned CAL Kinney Co-Player of the Year honors during the football season, leading Greater Newburyport with 586 yards on 62 of 107 passing (57.9 percent) and four touchdown passes while also tallying 393 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns on a team-high 94 carries. He tallied 36 points on the season and, though Triton finished 0-5, Odoy ensured the Vikings were competitive in every game, nearly leading the Vikings to upset Lynnfield in an eventual 30-22 double-overtime loss in the season finale.

In addition to his football exploits, Odoy is also a two-time Newburyport Daily News All-Star in basketball and a four-year varsity baseball player. This winter, Odoy earned all-CAL honors and averaged 11.1 points per game, and this spring he is Triton baseball’s starting first baseman. This year, Odoy was named a team captain in all three sports.

Academically, Odoy is among the best students at Triton Regional High School. He boasts a 4.64 GPA and ranks fourth in his class, and has served as a class officer, a member of Triton’s student council and in a variety of other leadership positions throughout high school.

Athanas is one of the area’s top three-sport athletes, as she has earned a spot on the CAL All-Star team in field hockey, basketball and lacrosse.

This fall, Athanas was named the CAL Baker Player of the Year in leading the Hornets to an 8-1-1 record to win the league title outright. She is a two-way midfielder who is an elite performer offensively and defensively.

Athanas is also a senior captain on the basketball team and the 2020 CAL Baker Defensive Player of the Year. She will be a senior captain on the lacrosse team this spring.

Athanas will be playing lacrosse in college at Georgetown University and was an All-League performer as a sophomore in the spring of 2019 when the Hornets reached the Division 2 State Finals.

In the classroom, Athanas is a Manchester Essex Scholar, which is awarded to students who have achieved a grade point average of 4.7 or higher while taking honors or AP courses in all five core subjects.

In addition to Athanas and Odoy, Moynihan Lumber honored the 2019-20 Student-Athletes of the Year in India Ingemi of Beverly and Tyler Godfrey of Triton, who didn’t get to take part in the luncheon last year due to the pandemic.

Moynihan Lumber gave out several other awards during the luncheon, starting with longtime Rockport boys soccer coach Dave Curley — who was given the Lifetime Commitment Award in the Schools category.

Lisa Olson and Tom Roundy were both given the Lifetime Commitment Award in the Community category.

In addition, former Peabody track star and two-time Moynihan Lumber Student-Athlete of the Year Catarina Rocha was given the Post-Graduate Achievement Award.

The 2020-21 monthly winners of the Moynihan Lumber Student-Athlete Award were Pingree’s Maddie Mullaney and Masconomet’s Sebastian Gilligan (October), Saugus’ Gabrielle Surette and Salem’s Ethan Doyle (November), Athanas and Gloucester’s Andrew Coelho (December), Gloucester’s Mia Salah and St. John’s Prep’s Charlie Danis (January), Lynnfield’s Jen Flynn and Newburyport’s Jacob Robertson (February), Newburyport’s Sydney Yim and Bishop Fenwick’s Steven Woods (March), Odoy and Pingree’s Katherine Silacci (April) and Danvers’ Lily Eldridge and Lynn Classical’s Nico Galeazzi (May).
