SWAMPSCOTT — A resident has been nominated by Gov. Charlie Baker as administrative law judge of the Industrial Accidents Reviewing Board at the Department of Industrial Accidents (DIA).
Attorney Karen Fabiszewski has worked in various legal counsel roles at the DIA since 2001, most recently serving as director of the Workers’ Compensation Trust Fund, which is responsible for overseeing the state’s workers’ compensation system and managing approximately $45 million annually in payments and reimbursements.
“Throughout her career, Attorney Fabiszewski has demonstrated a meaningful commitment to public service and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and is well suited to serve as an administrative law judge,” Baker said in a statement.
Previously, Fabiszewski served as an attorney with the Labor Relations Commission. She is a graduate of Salem State College and Suffolk University, where she received her law degree. She also received a master’s degree of public administration in 2017 from Harvard University.
The Department of Industrial Accidents oversees the Massachusetts workers’ compensation system, serving injured workers, employers, attorneys and insurers. The Industrial Accident Board consists of 21 administrative judges who preside over disputed workers’ compensation cases.
If confirmed by the Governor’s Council, Fabiszewski will serve a six-year term.
