BEVERLY — A season to remember came to a close Tuesday night for the No. 2 Marblehead boys tennis team, with the Magicians dropping a 5-0 match to an experienced, sharp No. 10 Bedford squad in the Division 2 North quarterfinals at Bass River Tennis Club in Beverly.

Freshman Mika Garber, who was named Northeastern Conference Player of the Year, lost to senior Malcolm Mayenja (6-2, 6-1) in first singles.

Junior Jack Donovan, an NEC All-Star who’s improved all season, couldn’t keep pace with Owen Goss in second singles (6-0, 6-0).

In third singles, senior co-captain and NEC All-Conference honoree Daniel Farfel dropped his match to Adam Gapobromes (6-2, 6-3).

Despite dropping the first set in first doubles 6-0, juniors Dwight Foster and Kipp Schauder battled back — but couldn’t quite get over the hump against Bedford’s Jake Klingenberg and Leo Chen in the second set (6-4 loss).

The NEC All-Star duo of senior Thomas Dack and junior Aidan Ryan fared a bit better in second singles, losing to Rohan Manne and Eftai Weisman 6-2, 6-4.

In sub-varsity play, senior co-captain Christopher Thompson teamed up with junior Jack Fobert for the only win of the day for Marblehead (6-4).

Marblehead can still hang its heads high, walking away from the season as NEC champions after finishing with a 9-3 record.
