School Sports Roundup: St. Mary’s baseball takes down Greater Lowell in Division 2 North

The No. 6 St. Mary’s baseball team is on its way to the Division 3 North quarter finals after taking down No. 11 Greater Lowell Tech 4-2 in the first round Monday.

Aiven Cabral pitched three clean innings for the Spartans and racked up six strikeouts. Tommy Falasca (one hits, two walks, one strikeout) and John Nowicki (one hit, one walk, four strikeouts) each added two innings on the mound for St. Mary’s.

Falasca had a hit at the plate and had an RBI, as did Terence Moynihan and Colby Magliozzi. Zach Fisher, Cabral, Moynihan and Magliozzi each scored a run.

St. Mary’s hosts No. 14 Concord-Carlisle Wednesday (4).

BASEBALL

Division 1 North First Round

No. 10 Lexington 16, No. 7 Revere 1

Revere finishes the season at 6-4.

No. 4 St. John’s Prep 4, No. 13 Chelmsford 2

The Eagles moved on thanks to a true group effort on the mound from Joseph Gizmut (two innings, one run, two hits, one walk, two strikeouts), Peter Martin (three innings, one run, two hits, one walk, four strikeouts) and Sam Belliveau (two innings, one hit, three strikeouts).

At the plate, Christopher Dirks and Eric Wing each had an RBI while Nick Solitro scored a pair of runs.

St. John’s hosts No. 5 Westford Academy Wednesday (4).

Division 2 North First Round

No. 5 Marblehead 10, No. 21 Belmont 2

Jacob Sherf earned the win, battling through five innings while giving up five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Liam McIlory and Andrew Titus each had two hits and two RBI; McIlroy had two doubles while Andy Titus had one. Sami Loughlin added three hits and an RBI.

Bjorn Pluss and James Doody each threw one inning in relief.

Marblehead hosts No. 13 Danvers Wednesday (4).

No. 1 Shawsheen 5, No. 17 Salem 4

Three runs in the bottom of the seventh were the difference from the Witches walking away with the upset. Ethan Doyle pitched well through 6 2/3 allowing two earned runs on nine hits, two walks and six strikeouts. Tommy Beauregard, Bobby Jellison, Robert Palacios and Jack Doyle each had an RBI.

Salem ends the year at 7-11.

Division 3 North First Round

No. 19 Saugus 7,  No. 3 Boston Latin 2

The Sachems are at No. 6 Gloucester Wednesday (4).

No. 18 Bishop Fenwick 13, No. 2 Brighton 0

Pitchers Brandon Bloom (2 2/3 innings, one hit, one walk, two strikeouts) and Christian Loescher (2 1/3 innings, one walk, one strikeout) powered the Crusaders.

Mike Faragi had four RBI while Chris Faraca continued an impressive postseason with three. Scott Emerson tacked on two RBI while Tucker Destino and Loescher each had one.

Fenwick hosts No. 23 Watertown Wednesday (4:30).

Division 4 North First Round

No. 9 Winthrop 8, No. 8 Georgetown 4

The Vikings are at No. 1 Snowden Wednesday (4).

SOFTBALL

Division 1 North First Round

No. 2 Peabody 6, No. 15 Haverhill 0

The Tanners host a quarterfinal game Wednesday (4:30) TBD.

No. 20 Concord-Carlisle 14, No. 4 Revere 7

The Patriots end the season at 8-2.

Division 2 North First Round

No. 8 Danvers 6, No. 9 Saugus 0

Saugus ends the season at 9-5.

No. 3 North Reading 5, No. 14 Marblehead 1

Marblehead closes the season at 8-7.

Division 3 North First Round

No. 10 Winthrop 14, No. 7 Lynnfield 1

The Vikings are at No. 2 St. Mary’s Wednesday (3:15).

Lynnfield ends the season at 8-6.

BOYS LACROSSE

Division 2 North Quarterfinal

No. 8 Billerica 8, No. 1 Marblehead 4

The Magicians end the season at 13-1.

Division 3 North Quarterfinal

No. 3 Newburyport 14, No. 11 St. Mary’s 5

Jackson Field had two goals while Sam York, Jack Silva and Zach Barden each had one.

St. Mary’s ends the year at 11-7.

No. 10 Bishop Fenwick 20, No. 2 Essex Tech 19

The Crusaders pulled off another thrilling win and are at No. 3 Newburyport Wednesday (TBD).

GIRLS LACROSSE

Division 1 North First Round

No. 5 Boston Latin 16, No. 12 Marblehead 8

The Magicians’ run came to an end despite a seven-goal performance from Maddie Erskine. Sydney Langton added a goal while Abby Kalinowski had two assists and Molly Forbes had one. Elizabeth Driscoll had 17 saves.

Marblehead ends the year at 10-4.

No. 7 North Andover 11, No. 10 Peabody 6

Hailee Lomasney (three goals, three assists) and Amber Kiricoples (three goals, two assists) led the way in their final game for the Tanners. Hailey Baker had an assist. Olivia Lavalle had 15 saves.

Peabody ends the season at 10-5.

Division 2 North First Round

No. 6 Swampscott 15, No. 11 Lowell Catholic 1

The Big Blue kept rolling thanks to five goals and two assists from Broghan Laundry and four goals and an assist from Harper Clopton. Elizabeth Green added two goals and four assists while Scarlet Ciciotti, Reese Robertson, Coco Clopton and Lily Johnson all had a goal.

Swampscott is at No. 3 Austin Prep Wednesday (4).

No. 10 Manchester-Essex 19, No. 7 Bishop Fenwick 5

The Crusaders end the season at 10-4.

GIRLS TENNIS

No. 4 Marblehead 3, No. 5 Burlington 2

A pair of decisive wins from the Magicians’ first and second doubles group were the difference in this one. Emily Clough and Lauren Podgur (6-4, 6-2) and Leah Salnier and Ava Ullian (6-2, 6-1) each got a win while Tess Keaney (6-2, 6-0) got the win in third singles.

Marblehead is at No. 1 Newburyport Wednesday (TBD) in the semifinals.

Wrestling

Division 3 North Semifinal

No. 3 Tyngsborough at No. 2 Marblehead/Swampscott (7)
