LYNN — LynnArts will kick off a new show Friday night aimed at showcasing the stories of amateur and professional artists, musicians, writers, dancers and performers.
The exhibition, “Memoirs,” will be available for viewing from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and will run until Aug. 6. The focus is on sharing the diversity and experiences of the featured artists by using words to describe who they are, their journey and their future goals.
One of the local artists featured in this gallery is Tizauni Boyles, who goes by the name Teb.
A creative writer and poet, Teb said writing and performing poetry brings him peace and allows him to express his inner thoughts. He said it’s important to have these kinds of gallery opportunities because it highlights the talent and diversity in the city.
“I feel it’s important to have all-inclusive shows like this to represent the city as it is,” Teb said. “There are many changes happening in the city and, unfortunately, they do not all represent the true natives of Lynn.”
With his poems, Teb said he wants to change the culture of how words are portrayed. He wants to show people that written words are works of art and “should be displayed as such amongst other artwork in art galleries.”
The unique thing about poems, Teb said, is that they can be perceived in multiple ways. Whether his poems are read on paper or listened to through recordings, he said the consumers can read it one way then have a completely different view of the meaning and message of the poem when hearing it aloud. This, he said, is one of the beautiful things about poetry that not many people may know.
“I value perspective and I think it’s very important to have all types of perspectives presented and available to people,” Teb said. “That’s why with a lot of my work I do my best to have both book forms, so people can read it, and record it so it’s on streaming platforms for people to hear as well.”
Teb’s work primarily focuses on meditating and reflecting on one’s self and life; he said his work expresses his thoughts and feelings about what he notices around him.
The Memoirs exhibition is the fifth Teb’s work has been featured in, and he said he is looking forward to having his poetry on display in his hometown.
Teb is working with another writer featured in the gallery, Alex Suarez — also known as Jasz Official; both will host a live show at the gallery on July 30, featuring performances from local musicians, poets and dancers.
Teb’s work can be viewed on his website at siirart.com/teb and more information on the show can be found at www.galleriesatlynnarts.org.
