LYNN — Bob Keaney, the former sports editor for the Lynn Sunday Post, who had a close and lengthy association with the Boys & Girls Club, will be the subject of a tribute Thursday, July 15, from 5-7 p.m. at the club.
Those running the tribute, including J. J. “Pumpsie” Green, are hoping the members of the Ray Sullivan Club team who are pictured in the accompanying photo can attend.
“We certainly want to get the word out to Bob’s friends, former players and folks who may want to remember him in some way at the tribute,” Green said.
Sullivan, who sponsored the club, which was a precursor to the modern-day Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) program, was a decorated Korean War veteran who lost his leg while overseas. His son attended many of the games the team played around the North Shore and Greater Boston, Green said.
Keaney, who was one of the founders of the Sonny Man Hill Award, which recognized sportsmanship in Lynn’s Little League program, died May 15. He was a longtime booster of Lynn’s youth sports.
Refreshments and sandwiches will be served.
