On Wednesday, unannounced street construction in downtown Lynn blocked streets, shut down Oxford, Andrew and Washington streets and Central Avenue and stalled traffic.
On Thursday, these downtown streets looked like the bumper-car ride at an amusement park, with drivers weaving around each other and dodging iron grates and drains protruding from unfinished streets.
The nearly-yearlong downtown construction work is scheduled to end next week with contractor Allied Paving resurfacing streets once preliminary utility work is completed. We join everyone who works and lives downtown or commutes through downtown in saying the end cannot come soon enough. In the meantime, the city and Allied can make the ordeal easier by tacking up some caution and detour signs downtown.
