LYNN — Eight players from the East Lynn, Pine Hill, West Lynn and Wyoma little leagues competed in the city’s annual home run derby on Sunday, after being forced to cancel last year’s event due to the pandemic.
This event occurs every summer at the same time as the City Series championship tournament, which began in the 1950s.
This year’s derby was on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Volunteer Field, home of East Lynn Little League.
The derby consists of three rounds with all eight players in the first, before dwindling down to four players in the second round and two in the final.
West Lynn’s Rowan Merryman took home the first place trophy with 12 home runs in the final round and 41 all together. Merryman beat Pine Hill’s Elijah Morin — who had 11 home runs — on the last swing.
Merryman represented West Lynn with his catcher, Brennan Malloy, along with Boo Disaia and his catcher, Jayden Barragan.
Morin was accompanied by his catcher, Riley Driscoll.
Representing East Lynn were Collin Hart, Mark Walsh and Walsh’s catcher, Braeden Ohannesian.
For Wyoma, players Michael Nerich, Lucas Downey and Sam Morris competed.
