REVERE — Former City Council President Al Fiore announced this month that he will once again run for a seat on the council.
Fiore, a former councilor-at-large and three-time council president, is running for the Ward Five seat on the ten-member council, challenging incumbent John Powers for his seat.
“I’ve had enough of the overdevelopment and out-of-town developers running our city,” Fiore said in a statement. “I’ve had enough of the political double-talk, empty promises, half-truths and political charades. It’s time to turn the tide in Ward Five.”
Fiore cited issues like over-approval of special permits and variances, traffic and congestion, inequitable parking sticker programs and the “political shenanigans” that brought parking meters to Revere Beach as his motivation for running.
The 52-year-old father of two has lived in Revere for 40 years, and was first elected to the council at 22. He stepped down at age 31 to raise his family.
When Fiore left the council, he was appointed director of education and community outreach at Suffolk Superior Court.
Fiore is a 1986 graduate of Revere High School. He attended Salem State College, where he received a degree in finance and economics.
In addition to Powers, Fiore is running against candidates Ronald Clark and Christian Majano Ortez. Neither Clark, Majano or Powers returned requests for comment.
The preliminary election in Revere will take place on September 14, with the municipal election being held November 2.
