SAUGUS — 31-year-old Angela Tramonte was enjoying quality time in the great outdoors while vacationing in Phoenix, Ariz., but tragedy struck on Friday.
The Saugus resident lost her life while hiking in Camelback Mountain. She was visiting her boyfriend who she met on Instagram a few months prior.
According to first responders, Tramonte and the man went for a hike on Echo Canyon Trail, which leads up Camelback Mountain, but the boyfriend alleged she was getting overheated halfway up the trail and turned around while he continued. Tramonte’s boyfriend returned to their vehicle and was unable to find the Saugus resident.
While national audiences are wondering what could have caused this terrible event, close friends and family are even more perplexed.
“We want justice. We want answers. We need to keep pushing,” Tramonte’s friend Stacey Gerardi said to WBZ-TV. “That was my sister. We had 25 years of friendship.”
“If anybody knew Angela, she wouldn’t go anywhere without a gallon of water in her hand, and I heard she was found without any water,” Melissa Buttaro told WBZ.
No official cause of death has been released.
