LYNN — Police are investigating after a man was beaten with a baseball bat on Oxford Street Tuesday afternoon.

Police responded to the assault at approximately 1:30 p.m. and found a man who was limping around with what he said was a broken arm from getting hit multiple times with a baseball bat.

The person who hit him with the bat fled the scene in a white van that said “Spin City” on it, police said.

Police described the suspect as a Black man who was wearing a Red Sox hat. The white van he was driving had commercial plates, police said.

A neighbor said she heard yelling and swearing through her window which looks onto Oxford Street. When she went outside to look for the source of the commotion, she saw the victim holding his arm and walking around like he was in pain.

Firefighters and EMTs examined the victim, put him on a stretcher and placed him in an ambulance. However, the victim left the ambulance and proceeded to walk around the neighborhood. Police returned to the scene and worked with the EMTs to convince the victim to get back into the ambulance.

The victim agreed, and police followed the ambulance to Salem Hospital.

Police declined to identify the victim and could not provide an update on his condition.
