Crumbl looking to sweeten the Shops at Saugus

SAUGUS — The Shops at Saugus might get a new treat this fall.

Crumbl Cookies is looking to open a new location in the shopping plaza located on Route 1 north. The company claims to be the fastest growing brick-and-mortar cookie store in the nation.

Crumbl’s co-founder and COO Sawyer Hemsley created Crumbl with the goal of making the world’s best chocolate chip cookie, according to the company’s website.

Jessica Gariano, who is the owner of the Saugus location, said the town was chosen based on location and the desire to help local restaurants.

“We chose Saugus for our store because of its accessibility to not only citizens of Saugus but the surrounding communities and those commuting to and from downtown Boston,” Gariano said. “We also felt that the area could use a dedicated dessert brand to compliment the other eateries in town.”

According to the store owner, Crumbl is far from your ordinary cookie store.

“What sets us apart is our weekly menu that rotates in four to five new flavors each week, while always offering our best selling chocolate chip cookie,” said Gariano. “Our in-store experience offers an open-kitchen concept, where customers can see the cookies being mixed, baked and boxed when they come in.”

The cookie company is looking to open the Saugus location in late October. They have applied for a common victualer’s license and will be looking to open up shop in the popular plaza that hosts Trader Joe’s and Border Cafe, among other stores.

The cookie chain offers delivery via DoorDash as well as curbside pick up, which can be accessed on the mobile Crumbl app.

Vice Chair of the Board of Selectmen Corinne Riley the town always welcomes new businesses, especially after the pandemic forced some to close.

“We always love for new businesses to start up here, especially coming out of COVID and all the businesses that have left town,” Riley said. “We’re always welcoming businesses here and just look forward to having hopefully a very successful business and that they will prosper from being here.”
