LYNN — North Shore Juneteenth Association (NSJA) will host its first-ever Diversity Matters Festival at Red Rock Park next weekend.
The event, funded by a Better Beaches Grant from Save the Harbor/Save the Bay and the Department of Conservation and Recreation, will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, and will highlight the cultural diversity in Lynn.
“Highlighting the diversity all around us in this unique and picturesque setting seemed like a natural progression to all of the work NSJA has done this year to raise awareness and to foster collaborations and connections for BIPOC business owners, artisans, makers, entrepreneurs and creators,” said NSJA Director Nicole McClain.
The event will include food, music, vendors and dance performances, as well as other activities and entertainment.
NSJA partnered with several other local organizations for the event, including Total Inspiration Athletics, Artful Life Counseling Center, Lynn Museum, Creative Collective and Marblehead School of Music. Funding from the Essex County Community Foundation allowed organizers to waive all vendor fees for the festival.
“It’s time we had an event like this that celebrates and showcases our cultural wealth and the amazing diversity of this city,” said Lynn Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer Faustina Cuevas. “Our cultural and linguistic diversity is what makes Lynn unique and allows us to learn across differences. I hope to see and participate in more events like this in the future.”
