To the editor:
In the commentary, “I say Cyr for mayor,” (Item, Aug. 19), David L’Esperance misleads readers when he says, “Many will recall that Darren was one of the founding members of the North Shore Labor Council, a coalition of union locals that provide unified support for each other’s endeavors and principles.”
As the North Shore Labor Council was founded 117 years ago, we find it difficult to believe Cyr was a founding member. The North Shore Labor Council is currently in its endorsement process, and asks all politicians and their hacks to keep our organization’s name out of their mouths until we announce Labor’s endorsed candidates in the 2021 Lynn municipal election.
To set the record straight: Cyr is the only Lynn mayoral candidate who did not bother to respond to our request to participate in our endorsement process, and is thus the only candidate not eligible to receive our support.
We spend dozens of hours on a rigorous and fair endorsement process, including questionnaires and interviews, that culminates in a democratic vote.
Mr. L’Esperance: Misrepresenting our organization is a dirty political trick, reserved for the most dishonest and desperate political operatives. Do better.
