LYNN — The Demakes Family YMCA will host the annual Stride Along the Tide 5k at the Nahant Life Saving Station, at 96 Nahant Road, on Sept. 25.
This race began seven years ago, but skipped last year because of the pandemic. It was previously hosted at the old Lynn YMCA.
Participants can walk or run the 5k, which will go through Nahant. The fee for the race is $20 for participants 17 and under, and $25 for participants older than 18.
The races include chip-timing by Bay State Timing Services, an exclusive race T-shirt, and post-race refreshments.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the race starts at 8:30 a.m.
Prizes are awarded to the top finishers in each age group and gender, and all participants will be eligible to win raffle prizes.
All of the funds raised from the race will go toward the Demakes Family YMCA to provide needed financial assistance for memberships, programs and child care.
Chris Tognazzi, health and wellness director at the Demakes Family YMCA, said this annual 5k is a fun way for the community to get together in a fantastic outdoor setting.
“We want everyone to start off the fall healthy, and training for a 5k road race is a great way to jumpstart your routines,” Tognazzi said. “I can’t wait to run this race with all of our neighbors.”
This race is a family-friendly event, welcoming all ages, and is a part of the YMCA of Metro North Road Race Series.
The series includes the Demakes Family YMCA’s Stride Along the Tide 5k, which will be followed by the Melrose Family YMCA’s Spooky Sprint in Downtown Melrose on Oct. 30, and concludes with the Torigian Family YMCA’s Livestrong at the Y Half Marathon and inaugural Livestrong 5k on Nov. 20.
