LYNN — The remnants of Hurricane Ida hit the North Shore Wednesday night, bringing rain that caused some minor flooding into Thursday morning but left the area mostly undamaged.
Fire Chief Stephen Archer said that the department was called out to a small amount of flooding in the area of Commercial and Alley streets just before 6 a.m. Thursday, but other than that the city remained mostly clear.
“We made it through this latest rain storm pretty well,” Archer said. “We dodged a bullet.”
Next door in Swampscott, Ocean Avenue was partially closed at Shepard Avenue until early Thursday afternoon, but Department of Public Works Director Gino Cresta said that aside from that, he didn’t see any flooding on public property.
“As I drive around town, there’s a ton of people with sump pumps pumping out basements and backyards,” Cresta said.
Between Lynn and Saugus, the state highway service shut down Route 107 on either side of Fox Hill Bridge due to flooding early Thursday morning.
The Peabody Fire Department and Nahant Police Department both reported that they had not seen any flooding during the storm.
According to the National Weather Service, communities in Essex County received between 2 and 5 inches of rain during the storm. Lynn received 4.36 inches of precipitation.
