SWAMPSCOTT — Humphrey Street will restrict parking beginning at 3 p.m. and will be closed to traffic starting at 6 p.m. Saturday due to fireworks that will be on display for the Swamptoberfest celebration.
Humphrey Street will be closed to traffic, which will allow people to use the area as a viewing location. Fire Chief Graham Archer said that since this is the first time a fireworks show will be happening in Swampscott since the COVID-19 pandemic, town officials are expecting a large crowd.
“We’re anticipating folks from all around to come out to see the fireworks,” said Archer.
Swamptoberfest will start at 4 p.m. and fireworks will begin at 8 p.m. The fireworks will be shot off of two barges at Fisherman’s Beach. The outdoor event will have food trucks, a beer garden, a play area and live music. Access to the beer garden and play area is $5 a person with a maximum charge of $20 per family.
Town Administrator Sean Fitzgerald said that the event will be a perfect celebration to mark the end of summer and a great way for people to come together after a hard pandemic; the event is also being held ahead of the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
“This gives us a chance to come together as a community and remember all those things we hold dear,” Fitzgerald said.
