SWAMPSCOTT — Humphrey Street will be completely shut down starting at 6 p.m. Saturday for a fireworks show, which will begin at 8 p.m.
The fireworks are part of the “Swamptoberfest” celebration, which is set to begin at 4 p.m. on the Town Hall lawn. This is the event’s second year, after taking a year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
All parked cars will need to be removed from Humphrey Street by 3 p.m. Motorists will no longer be able to drive through the area starting at 6 p.m.
Swampscott Police said in a statement posted on Facebook that a number of other streets will also have no parking from 3 p.m.; all road closures will be marked with temporary signs.
There will be no parking on either side of the following streets: Humphrey Street, from Redington Street to the Lynn line; all of Monument Avenue; Burrill Street, from Paradise Road to Humphrey Street; all of Redington Street; all of Sheridan Road; Thomas Road; and Elmwood Road from Paradise Road to Monument Avenue.
The following streets will be closed starting at 6 p.m.: Humphrey Street, from Redington Street to the Lynn line; Burrill Street, from Paradise Road to Monument Avenue; Monument Avenue; Shaw Road; Andrew Road; and Ellis Road from Paradise Road to Farragut Road.
There will be public parking available at Phillips Park.
The festival will include a beer garden with Harpoon beers and 90 different wines, a play area for children and families, live music and food trucks. Access to the beer garden or play area will cost $5 a person and no more than $20 for families.
“It’s been a long and difficult pandemic,” said Town Administrator Sean Fitzgerald. “We want to keep everyone focused on staying safe, but with over 82 percent of residents vaccinated, and with lots of folks being mindful and keeping themselves and each other safe, we can enjoy these types of activities.”
