LYNN — As the preliminary election approaches, mayoral candidates and School Committee members Jared Nicholson and Michael Satterwhite spent the final days before polls open on Tuesday engaging with the community.
Between sign holding and door knocking, the candidates spent the weekend speaking with community members to share the messages and goals of their campaigns.
Candidate and City Council President Darren Cyr did not respond to attempts to discuss his final weekend push of campaigning.
“We’re door knocking and trying to reach voters and share our campaign,” Nicholson said.
Nicholson spent time sign holding, going out in the community to speak with voters, and preparing for Tuesday with volunteers at his headquarters located at 47 Myrtle St.
He said his campaign is especially focused on reminding people that Tuesday is the big day.
“We feel really excited,” Nicholson said. “We feel like we had the opportunity to have lots of conversations with voters, and those conversations have gone really well, and we’re excited for the sprint to the homestretch. We’re feeling good.”
Satterwhite spent the weekend door knocking, attending community events, and holding signs with volunteers in every ward.
“I’m spending the final days with the community just like I will spend in the first days as our mayor,” Satterwhite said. “Our campaign has an extensive outreach campaign to every resident, every ward, and every business so their voices are heard.”
Satterwhite said he feels grateful for the experience and the support he has received throughout his campaign.
“I couldn’t do any of this without my wife, kids, family, friends and faith,” he said.
The polls for the preliminary election open on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The two candidates with the highest number of votes will move on to the final election, which is Tuesday, Nov. 2.
