A hole-out for eagle, a couple of birdie putts and a solid all-around team performance combined to put the St. John’s Prep golf team over the edge Thursday afternoon, as the Eagles notched a 224-232 victory over Catholic Conference rival Xaverian at Kernwood Country Club.

It was Prep senior Nick DeVito who provided the bulk of the theatrics, dunking one for eagle from 40 yards out on the par-5 first hole to get off to a hot start. He went on to make a 35-foot birdie putt on the fourth hole en route to shooting a score of 36, tying him for the team low score with junior Ian Rourke. Seniors Alex Landry and Michael Shyjan each put up scores of 37 in the win, while senior Connor Remley shota 38 and sophomore Deuce Morton shot a 40 to round out the qualifying scores. Sophomore Terry Manning (41) and senior Brendan O’Holleran (42) also played well for the Eagles.
