School Sports Roundup: St. John’s Prep soccer falls to Needham

After battling to a scoreless tie through 78 minutes of soccer on Saturday morning, the St. John’s Prep Eagles just had one defensive lapse and it made all the difference in a 1-0 loss to Needham at Glatz Field. 

The game-winning goal for Needham came with just two minutes to play in the game, when Campbell Keyes sent a perfect cross into the box for Mitch Wilson — who promptly buried the shot to put the Rockets ahead for good. 

St. John’s Prep (2-1) will try to get back on a winning track Monday night (7) on the road at Catholic Memorial.

BOYS SOCCER

Lynn Classical 1, Medford 1

Senior Gabriel Sarmento notched the lone goal for the Rams, while Jieren Mireles added one assist. Isaiah Diaz had a strong performance in net.

Classical (1-3-1) hosts Everett Tuesday evening (6) at Manning Field. 

GIRLS SOCCER

Lynn Classical 7, Salem Charter 0

Jayda Mateo led the offensive attack for the Rams with three goals, while Delaney Dana added one goal and two assists in the win. Mea Papazoglou, Molly Mannion and Victoria Medeiros each scored one goal in the win, while Gianna Parker had one assist. Goalkeeper Anna Flaherty remained hot in net, notching her fifth shutout of the season.

Classical (4-0-2) plays on the road at Everett Tuesday (4).

Lynnfield 3, Essex Tech 0

Adrianna Parisi scored two goals in the win for the Pioneers, while Ally Sykes added one goal. Anna Radulski notched two assists. 

Lynnfield (2-0-1) hosts Hamilton-Wenham Monday afternoon (3:45).

Bishop Fenwick 0, Newburyport 0

Fenwick (1-0-2) hosts rival St. Mary’s Monday evening (6).

FOOTBALL

Boston English 36, Lynn Tech 15

Quarterback Tyler David and running back Regner Nival each rushed for one touchdown in the loss for the Tigers. 

Tech (0-2) hosts Manchester-Essex Saturday (2).

Salem 8, Martha’s Vineyard 6 (OT)

The game was a scoreless tie heading into the overtime period before Martha’s Vineyard scored on its first trip down the field in the extra frame. After missing the two-point conversion, Salem had the opportunity to win it and took advantage.

Salem (1-1) plays on the road at Greater Lawrence Friday (7).

VOLLEYBALL

Revere 3, Pioneer Charter 0

Revere (2-1) plays on the road at Chelsea Monday (5:30).
