School Sports Roundup: Bishop Fenwick field hockey blanks rival St. Mary’s

The Bishop Fenwick field hockey team kept its undefeated season alive and spoiled its biggest rival’s undefeated season in one fell swoop Thursday afternoon, notching a 4-0 win over St. Mary’s at Donaldson Stadium.

Senior Emma Perry was the driving force behind the Crusaders’ offense, scoring three goals in the victory. Grace Morey scored one goal, while Zoe Elwell had two assists and Rayne Millett had one assist. Kailey Silva had a great defensive game, Karina Gyllenhaal and Eve Watson played well in the midfield and Sedona Lawson notched the shutout victory in net. 

Fenwick (4-0-2) hosts Danvers Monday night (7).

St. Mary’s (3-1-1) plays on the road at Austin Prep Tuesday (4).

FIELD HOCKEY

Lynnfield 3, Newburyport 1

Julia Carbone and Ava Marotta had one goal and one assist each, while Anna Kaminski scored one goal. Georgia Milne had one assist, while Jordan Lavey, Jacqui Carbone and Lauren Grava all played well defensively. Goalie Charlotte Radulski made 10 saves in the win.

Lynnfield (3-1-1) travels to Pentucket Tuesday (3:45).

GOLF

Bishop Stang 207, St. Mary’s 121

Despite a great performance from Aidan Emmerich — who shot 1-under and put up 38 points — the Spartans couldn’t get past unbeaten Stang on the road Thursday. 

Sean Mathers scored 20 points, while Kyle Rush had 16 points and Shea Newhall had 15 points. 

St. Mary’s (5-6) plays on the road at Archbishop Williams Monday (3).

Marblehead 49 1/2, Winthrop 22 1/2

Matt Weed once again earned medalist honors for the Magicians, shooting a score of 38 and tying his match 4 1/2-4 1/2. Winners on the day for Marblehead were Charlie Grenier (5-4), Chris Locke (7 1/2-1 1/2), Jacob Hershfield (7 1/2-1 1/2), Adrian Baron (7 1/2-1 1/2), Marty Ryan (7-2) and Matt Corrigan (6 1/2-2 1/2).

Marblehead (6-0) travels to Beverly Monday (4).

BOYS SOCCER

Lynn Tech 2, Lowell Catholic 0

Tech is now 6-0 on the season and has not allowed a goal to this point.

Peabody 2, Gloucester 1

The Tanners grabbed their second win in a row Thursday behind goals from Matt Calver and Ryan Alves. Bruno Correia added two assists in the win, while Marc Ortiz, Cam Collins and Aj Forte all played well for the Tanners. 

Peabody (3-1-0) hosts Beverly Wednesday (4).

Revere 6, Chelsea 0

Revere (2-2-1) hosts Malden Tuesday (4).

Swampscott 4, Saugus 1

Andrew Freger and Lucas Bereaud each scored two goals in the win for the Big Blue, while Valerio Tatafiore notched three assists.

Swampscott (2-2-0) travels to Masconomet Wednesday (4).

GIRLS SOCCER

Beverly 3, Marblehead 2

Annika Haley scored both goals for the Magicians in the loss, while Ella Kramer and Samantha Dormer each had one assist. 

Marblehead (4-1-0) hosts Weston Monday (4:15).

Lynn Classical 1, Malden 0

Freshman Gianna Parker scored the difference-making goal for the still-unbeaten Rams, while Ava Thurman notched one assist. Goalkeeper Anna Flaherty continued her incredible season, notching yet another shutout in net. 

Classical (6-0-2) travels to cross-town rival Lynn English Tuesday (3:45).

Whittier Tech 3, Lynn Tech 0

Tech kept it to a one-goal game for the majority of the action, but Whittier was able to pull away late to secure the win. Goalkeeper Cindy De Leon made a number of tremendous saves to keep the Tigers in the game throughout.

Tech is now 2-5-0.

Peabody 3, Gloucester 0

Peabody got one goal and one assist each from McKayla Fisher and Emily McDonough, while Maddie Scacchi notched one goal in the win. Goalkeeper Emma Bloom notched the shutout victory in net, while Branae Craveiro and Ava D’Ambrosio had strong games in the midfield. 

Peabody (2-2-2) travels to Beverly Tuesday (4).

VOLLEYBALL

Lynnfield 3, Hamilton-Wenham 2

The Pioneers battled back to win a five-setter by scores of 10-25, 19-25, 25-18, 25-19, 15-9.

Lynnfield (5-0) hosts Newburyport Monday (5:30).
