Letter: In regards to Mr. Satterwhite’s recount

The Editors

September 24, 2021 by The Editors

To the editor:

I can appreciate the rules when it comes to city ordinances, but to deny Mr. Satterwhite’s recount of the primary election, especially when he was willing to pay for the procedure, because his application was five minutes late, is ludicrous.

By denying this recount, the city election officials are essentially telling all of us who voted that there is no possible issue with uncounted votes and no issues with mail-in ballots, and that their integrity is above reproach. Well, come down off your high horse. The only absolutes we can count on are death and taxes.

By denying a request to make sure every vote was counted, Lynn election officials are delegitimizing every vote casted on Election Day. They are essentially telling us they do not have the time or ambition to give all votes one more count. Even if the outcome is the same, a recount will solidify the integrity of the Lynn Election Office.
