School Sports Roundup: St. John’s Prep golf finishes second at Cape Cod Invitational

The St. John’s Prep golf team put together a solid performance from all four of its players at the fifth annual Cape Cod National High School Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Cape Cod National Golf Club, but in the end the Eagles came up one stroke shy of the win and finished in second place. The Eagles combined to shoot a total score of 228, falling to Catholic Conference foe St. John’s (Shrewsbury) by a single shot.

The top performer for St. John’s Prep was Alex Landry, who fired a score of 73 to also put himself in the top 10 of the individual competition. Nick DeVito was close behind with a 76, while Ian Rourke also broke 80 with a score of 79. Terry Manning rounded out the scores for the Eagles with an 83. 

St. John’s Prep returns to its team schedule Tuesday (3) for a home match against Catholic Memorial at Four Oaks Country Club in Dracut.

BOYS SOCCER

St. John’s Prep 4, Lowell 0

Mark Patturelli, Jake Vanna, Jeff Groth and Callum Rigby all found the back of the net in the non-conference victory for the Eagles. 

St. John’s Prep (5-1-0) takes on BC High Tuesday (5:45).

Billerica 2, Peabody 1

Peabody (3-2-0) hosts Beverly Wednesday evening (6).

GIRLS SOCCER

Danvers 4, Lynnfield 1

Lynnfield (3-2-1) hosts Pentucket Monday (3:45).

FIELD HOCKEY

St. Mary’s 2, Bishop Stang 1

Maggie Pierce continued her strong season for the Spartans, scoring both goals in the victory. 

St. Mary’s (4-1-1) plays on the road at Austin Prep Tuesday (4).

VOLLEYBALL

Revere 3, Pioneer Charter 0

Revere (4-6) hosts Everett Monday (5:30).
