Gunshots reported in Salem location for third time

September 27, 2021 by Allysha Dunnigan

SALEM ― Police responded to the area between 135 Lafayette St. and Salem Street Sunday at 8:45 p.m. for the third time in the past week for reports of gunshots.

In two of these incidents, one occurring on Sept. 22 and the other on Sunday night, officers confirmed that shots were fired.

On Sunday evening, patrol officers responded to the area and found evidence of gunshots, including damage to structures and motor vehicles.

As with the previous incident, no injuries were reported and no suspects were located at the time police searched the area.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) responded to process the scene for ballistic and forensic evidence, interview witnesses, and take over the investigation.

The police department wants to reassure residents that addressing these violent acts is its highest priority as detectives use available resources to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible for these criminal acts.

Detectives are currently investigating the shootings and ask anyone with information to call the Salem Police CID at 978-745-9700, or the anonymous tip line at 978-619-5627.
