Nahant to hold first farmers market

NAHANT ― This small town plans to hold a big farmers market, and is looking for small businesses to become vendors for the event, which would be the first of its kind in Nahant.

The town’s first farmers market will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Flash Road Park.

The town is looking for food and craft vendors to participate in the farmers market. There will be space for 40 vendors at the park; each vendor will be given an area of 10 square feet, where they can set up their own tables and tents.

The point of this event is to preserve small businesses throughout the community in a memorable social atmosphere. In this community-gathering space, people can try locally-sourced food and purchase crafts made by their neighbors. The event will also serve as an opportunity for residents to socialize following more than a year of social-distancing protocols due to COVID-19, the town said.

The event will also feature family-friendly entertainment, such as a corn maze and bouncy house, which were donated by Oceanview of Nahant, a local wedding venue.

If the market is a success, the town plans to host this event on a regular basis, starting next spring or summer. The town will also be working with local groups and nonprofits with the aim of making each farmers market unique.

This is a free event and there will be no charge to vendors. However, vendors could be charged to participate in future markets.

The town will accept applications from vendors until Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. Forms can be mailed to Town Hall or emailed to [email protected].
