School Sports Roundup: Peabody volleyball blanks NEC foe Marblehead

The Peabody volleyball team notched a season sweep of Northeastern Conference foe Marblehead Monday evening, as the Tanners shut out the Magicians 3-0 at Veterans Memorial Field House. Peabody won by set scores of 25-14, 25-17, 25-21.

Isabel Bettencourt led the offensive attack for the Tanners with 13 kills, while Sarah Broughton and Ally Flewelling combined for 11 kills. Kristina Cardello had 26 digs and Michaela Alperen had 23 service points. Abby Bettencourt added 22 assists and four kills, while Maddie Castro and Lauryn Mendonca also played well in the victory.

Peabody (6-3) travels to Swampscott Tuesday (5:30).

Keira Sweenam had seven kills and three blocks to lead the way for the Magicians, while Lilah Thompson added six kills. Dylan Kerble and Caitlin Parkman combined for 32 digs on the defensive end, while Julia Potvin had 20 assists in the loss.

Marblehead (6-2) hosts Saugus Tuesday (6).

VOLLEYBALL

Lynn Classical 3, Revere 0

The Rams took home the Greater Boston League win by set scores of 25-19, 25-22, 25-18. 

“Revere put up a great fight and really tested us out there,” said Classical coach Chris LeBlanc. “I was proud of the girls and how they were able to grind out the win.”

It was a special night for two Classical seniors, as Chloe Clement (18 kills) and Samantha Thoeun (20 assists) notched their 100th kill and 100th assist of the season, respectively. 

Classical (11-0) travels to Medford Wednesday (5:30).

“It should be a really tough match,” said LeBlanc. “I think they’re 7-4 this year but they’re ranked higher than us in the power rankings, so we know we’ll be in for a battle.”

Revere (7-7) plays on the road at Lynn English Wednesday (7).

BOYS SOCCER

Cardinal Spellman 8, Bishop Fenwick 1

The lone goal for the Crusaders was scored by Ryan Noci, while Mehdi Khemmich notched one assist. 

Fenwick (2-3-3) hosts Bishop Feehan Wednesday (6:30).

GIRLS SOCCER

Lynnfield 2, Newburyport 0

The Pioneers notched a big win within the Cape Ann League Monday evening, as Anna Radulski netted both goals to lead the offense. 

Lynnfield (5-2-2) travels to Marblehead Wednesday (4).

Winthrop 5, East Boston 0

Reese Brodin scored two goals in the win for the Vikings, while Julia Marcoccio, Isabella Piccianato and Mia Martucci each scored one goal.

Winthrop (2-6) plays on the road at Peabody Tuesday (6).

FIELD HOCKEY

St. Mary’s 0, Bishop Feehan 0

The Spartans put together a strong defensive effort to earn a point against the unbeaten Shamrocks in a CCL battle at Manning Field.

St. Mary’s (4-1-2) hosts Bishop Fenwick Tuesday (3:45).

Marblehead 3, Beverly 0

Grace MacLean had two goals and one assist to lead the way for the Magicians, while Jacinda Peterson scored one goal in the win. Jane O’Neil and Clara Donovan each had one assist, while goalie Haley Baker made three saves for the shutout victory.

“It was a great team effort and the players all communicated well,” said Marblehead coach Linda Rice Collins. “The offense was moving, creating and blocking space, the midfield cut off passes and the defense transitioned well throughout the game.”

Marblehead (4-3-1) travels to Danvers Wednesday (5:30).

Swampscott 0, Danvers 0

The Big Blue battled to a hard-fought tie against one of the top teams in the Northeastern Conference on a rainy night at Blocksidge Field.

Swampscott (6-2-2) hosts Peabody Wednesday (4).
