REVERE — Democrats running for City Council and School Committee will speak during an upcoming forum about their ideals and plans for the city.
The Revere Democratic City Committee is hosting a virtual forum on Oct. 12 at 6 p.m.; this forum will feature democratic candidates running for contested City Council seats in Wards 2, 3, and 5, as well as democratic candidates running for School Committee.
The forum will be the first one held by any local party in Revere in more than a decade, according to Juan Pablo Jaramillo, secretary of the Revere Democratic City Committee.
Jaramillo said the committee and its chair, Dimple Rana, want to familiarize voters with the Democrats running for city office.
“Municipal elections are nonpartisan,” Jaramillo said. “So under (the) leadership of myself and Dimple Rana, we’re pushing to have more Democrats elected to city government.”
Jaramillo said that this forum will be based around two questions. The first will be an open-ended question for the candidate to respond to; the second will be a rapid-fire ‘yes’ or ‘no’ question.
In Ward 2, Councilor Ira Novoselsky is being challenged by Manuel Carrero, a graduate of Revere High School and an engineer at a local technology company.
In Ward 3, Democrat and local business owner Anthony Cogliandro is running against Republican Albert Terminello Jr. There is no incumbent in this race.
Ward 5 Councilor and former Democratic Ward 5 Chair John Powers is being challenged by Al Fiore, who previously served on the city’s governing board and is not a member of any political party.=
Incumbents Stacey Bronsdon-Rizzo, Michael A. Ferrante, Susan J. Gravellese, Frederick A. Sannella, and Carol A. Tye are running for reelection to the six-member School Committee. The challengers are Vanessa J. Biasella, Jacqueline Chavez, John F. Kingston, and Aisha Milbury-Ellis.
Only registered Democratic candidates have been invited to speak. Jaramillo said that this forum is aimed at helping the Revere Democratic City Committee showcase who they believe are the best candidates.
“As a Democratic State committeeperson, I’m fighting to ensure that we have a representative government that fights for working-class families,” Jaramillo said. “That’s why we’re highlighting candidates to show a clear vision of moving forward.”
The forum will be available to watch on the Revere TV website, and it will be live streamed on the Revere Democratic City Committee Facebook page.
