While the St. Mary’s Spartans boys soccer team was unable to secure the victory on Wednesday night, losing to Austin Prep 3-1, there was still reason to celebrate.
The Spartans celebrated senior night with five players graduating this upcoming year (Ryan Fraher, Richard LeBrun, Connor Hamel, Kevin Hueve, and Aidan Sullivan).
St. Mary’s was down 1-0 for the majority of the first half but in stoppage time were able to get a goal with Nick Miller finding the back of the net and LeBrun assisting on the play. In the second half Austin Prep jumped out to a 2-1 lead with a goal from 30-yards out and with St. Mary’s having some heavy legs, the Spartans allowed another goal before the night was over.
Even though the Spartans lost, head coach Mike D’Agostino thought it was one of St. Mary’s best performances of the season and he was proud of the way his group of seniors played.
“My seniors are great leaders,” said D’Agostino. “(They) definitely stepped up to help the team and be leaders for these younger kids.”
