Truck carrying 10,000 gallons of oil rolls over in Revere

REVERE —  A tanker truck carrying 10,000 gallons of oil rolled onto its side after entering Brown Circle on Route 60 Wednesday morning, leaving the tank punctured and causing nearly all of the oil to spill onto the road, State Police said.

The tractor-trailer, driven by a 41-year-old man, entered the rotary on Route 60 going westbound and rolled over onto its right side. The carrier in this crash was Goguen Transportation Inc., a Gardner-based company; police have determined the tanker was attempting to drive from Revere to Barre.

While Revere Police and Fire were the primary responders to the crash, the State Police Department Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section (DCVE) responded as well to conduct an inspection of the truck and its driver. The DCVE determined that the tanker had a defect in its braking system and placed the truck out of service until the defect is repaired and certified as such, along with whatever repairs are needed due to the crash, state police said.

All compartments of the tank were punctured and almost the entire load was spilled, state police said.

The Revere Police Department will decide whether to bring any criminal or civil motor-vehicle violations against the driver. That stretch of highway is a local road and Revere Police have primary jurisdiction, state police said.
