School Sports Roundup: Marblehead football stays unbeaten

The Marblehead football team just keeps pushing forward, as the Magicians ― the No. 1-ranked team in Division 3 ― rolled to a 42-25 win over Beverly on the road at Hurd Stadium Saturday morning. 

The game belonged to Marblehead quarterback Joshua Robertson, who passed for 313 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for two touchdowns in the win. Receiver Craig Michalowski was the main beneficiary, catching seven passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns. 

Running back Connor Cronin had a huge game on both sides of the ball for the Magicians, catching five passes for 108 yards, rushing for a touchdown, forcing a fumble and making an interception. Receiver Zander Danforth had a touchdown reception, while backup quarterback Miles O’Neill threw one touchdown pass.

Marblehead (6-0) will now have a bye week before returning to action Oct. 29 (7) at home against Danvers. 

BOYS SOCCER

Lynn Classical 3, Winthrop 0

The Rams took home the win on Senior Night Saturday at Manning Field, getting one goal each from Gabriel Sarmento, Jason Ventura, and Jieren Mireles. 

Lynn Classical (5-7-2) plays on the road at Malden Tuesday (4).

Bishop Stang 2, Bishop Fenwick 1

Keiron Murray scored Fenwick’s only goal in the loss Saturday afternoon.

Fenwick (3-6-4) hosts St. Mary’s Monday (3:30).

Stoneham 3, KIPP 0

Kevin Rodirguez, Henry Romero, and Marco Escobar all played well in the loss for the Panthers.

KIPP (10-4-0) travels to Innovation Academy Tuesday (4).

GIRLS SOCCER

Bishop Fenwick 1, Bishop Stang 1

Aisling Hinchey scored the lone goal in the draw for the Crusaders, while Ally Mitchell had one assist. 

Fenwick (6-0-5) travels to St. Mary’s Monday afternoon (4).

Swampscott 0, Haverhill 0

The Big Blue went on the road to Trinity Stadium and came away with a draw.

Swampscott (6-2-3) plays on the road at Gloucester Monday evening (6).

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

St. Mary’s at MSTCA Bob McIntyre Twilight Meet ― 11th place

The Spartans’ top finisher was Kyle Kwiatek, who placed 10th overall in a race of more than 300 runners. Kwiatek finished with a time of 16:33.1. Other impressive finishes for St. Mary’s included Anthony D’Itria in 67th place (17:56.9) and Jesse Moriello in 80th place (18:07.6).

Bishop Fenwick at Catholic Memorial Invitational ― 4th place

The Crusaders had three runners finish in the top 15 on the day, with Wyatt Burr leading the way with a third-place finish (17:47). Declan Smith finished in sixth place (18:12), while Andre Santos finished 14th (19:04). Other strong finishes for Fenwick came from Ethan Henshaw in 28th place (20:37) and Matt Cinelli in 30th place (20:45). 

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

St. Mary’s at MSTCA Bob McIntyre Twilight Meet ― 31st place

The Spartans were led by seventh-grader Kelsey Kwiatek, who finished 60th overall with a time of 21:06.

Bishop Fenwick at Catholic Memorial Invitational ― 6th place

The top finisher for Fenwick was Maria Ryan, who placed 23rd with a time of 21:47. Other strong finishes for the Crusaders came from Shannon Bresnahan in 30th place (22:37), Natalia Kay in 40th place (23:39), Sarah Fogarty in 43rd place (24:47) and Catherine Carter in 50th place (25:00).
