The Peabody volleyball team celebrated its Senior Night with a victory Thursday evening, knocking off Northeastern Conference foe Swampscott by a score of 3-1 at home. The Tanners won by set scores of 21-25, 25-6, 25-9, 25-11.
Prior to the game, Peabody honored seniors Kristina Cardello, Sarah Broughton, Meg Price, Elayna Capone, Janie Wilson and Kara Iozza for their contributions to the program over the years.
Cardello had a huge defensive game with 24 digs, while Broughton paced the offensive attack with 11 kills and four aces. Iozza had a big serving game with nine service points and one ace, while Capone had six kills and two aces. Price added three kills in the win.
“The seniors all made huge contributions in this game,” said Peabody coach Lisa Keene.
Swampscott (4-10) has a quick turnaround with a home game against Arlington Catholic Friday (5:30).
Peabody (13-4) is off until Wednesday (5:30) when it goes on the road to face Medford.
VOLLEYBALL
Lynnfield 3, Newburyport 0
The Pioneers — who are currently the No. 2-ranked team in the Division 4 power rankings — took home the Cape Ann League win by set scores of 25-23, 25-18, 25-15.
Ella Gizmunt continued her stellar season with 18 kills, eight digs and five aces, while Giuliana Guarracino had a great defensive game with 14 digs, six aces and five kills. Sarah Foley also played well, notching 16 assists and adding six digs.
Lynnfield (13-2) is right back in action Friday evening (5:30) with a road game against Lynn Classical.
Bishop Fenwick 3, Austin Prep 1
Fenwick took the match by set scores of 23-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-19.
Senior captain Jess Furtado had a huge game for the Crusaders in the win over their Catholic Central League opponent Thursday.
Fenwick (11-6) is back on the court Saturday afternoon (1:30) on the road at Danvers.
Arlington Catholic 3, St. Mary’s 0
Molly Cummings and Vittoria Moretti played well in the loss for the Spartans.
St. Mary’s (4-11) has a quick turnaround with a home game against Salem Friday (5).
Saugus 3, Everett 0
Saugus (4-14) plays on the road at Pioneer Charter II Monday (5:30).
