LYNN ― For My Brother’s Table’s 40th Annual Walk, the largest soup kitchen on the North Shore is inviting participants to go at their own pace.
From Oct. 24 to Nov. 14, those who wish to participate are invited on a virtual walk where they may set their own distance, route, and day. My Brother’s Table also held a virtual walk in 2020.
There will be an official event kickoff held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 24 on Facebook Live.
People are encouraged to walk virtually to ensure the social distance and safety of all who wish to raise money for My Brother’s Tables various initiatives that fight food insecurity in the city of Lynn.
Registered walkers will be automatically entered into a raffle to win a $250 Amazon gift card, and there will be prizes for the top fundraisers as well. Those who raise $40 for the 40th Annual Walk will be included on My Brother’s Table’s Wall of Fame.
My Brother’s Table has been operational since 1982, serving over 5.2 million free, hot meals to men, women, and children in need. Since the pandemic, they’ve ramped up their efforts.
“Our community has made strides since the pandemic, but hunger persists,” My Brother’s Table said in a press release. The organization has pivoted to to-go meals only; they say their current output is 400 percent greater than pre-pandemic levels. They currently distribute around 75,000 meals per month, and the organization is asking citizens of Lynn to help them reach the 1 million mark this year.
“Without interruption, MBT continues its mission to nourish neighbors every day through hospitality, free meals, and unconditional love,” the organization said.
The organization has made their 40th Annual Walk possible through the partnership with the Institution For Savings, Knights of Pythias, Mass
General Brigham Salem Hospital, Pediatric Associates of Greater Salem and Beverly, Salem Five Charitable Foundation, United Healthcare Community Plan, and Weaver Orthodontics.
My Brother’s Table does not receive federal funding, which it says is to protect the privacy of those who need to use its services. Instead, the organization says, funding comes from individual donations, private grants, and its Annual Walks.
