Football Roundup: Lynn English takes down Malden

The Lynn English football team put together a solid performance coming off its bye week Friday night, taking down Greater Boston League opponent Malden by a score of 32-0 on the road. 

“We made some mistakes and were a little sloppy coming off the bye, but we played well and the defense pitched a shutout,” said English coach Mackenzie Charles. “We’re always happy to come away with a win.”

Running back Wesley Chandler had another big day for the Bulldogs, rushing 24 times for 183 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Jesse Maggs completed 11-of-20 passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns, while Josh McDonald and Shea Palmer each had one touchdown reception.

English (2-4) travels to Somerville Friday (6).

FOOTBALL

Nashoba 22, Lynn Tech 16

Despite big touchdown runs from quarterback Tyler David (52 yards) and running back Domenic Giordano (21 yards), the Tigers couldn’t keep the Vikings off the board in a loss on the road Friday night. 

Tech (2-4) hosts Minuteman next Saturday (10).

St. John’s Prep 40, BC High 26

The Prep picked up a big win on the road Friday night in a Catholic Conference battle. 

Filling in for injured star James Guy, running back Carson Browne had a monster game with 277 rushing yards and a touchdown on 34 carries. Quarterback Jack Perry also had a big game with four touchdown passes, while receiver Jackson Delaney had nine receptions for 134 yards and three touchdowns. The Eagles compiled an impressive 472 yards of offense on the road. 

St. John’s Prep (6-1) will have an extra day off before hosting St. John’s (Shrewsbury) next Saturday (1).

Bishop Feehan 27, Bishop Fenwick 15

Turnovers were an issue for the Crusaders in Friday night’s loss, which knocked Fenwick out of a chance to earn a share of the Catholic Central League title.

Jason Romans had touchdown catches of 26 and 11 yards in the loss, while quarterback Bryce Leaman — who started in place of Steven Woods — threw two touchdowns and two interceptions. 

Fenwick (5-2) plays on the road at Bishop Stang Friday (7).

Winthrop 34, Salem 6

Welvis Acosta rushed for two touchdowns (60 yards and four yards) in the win for the Vikings, while Ian Harris had a 56-yard touchdown catch and a 78-yard pick-six. Cam Martin rushed for an 80-yard touchdown.

Winthrop (3-4) travels to Saugus Friday (7).

Jariel DelValle rushed for the lone touchdown in the loss for the Witches.

Salem (4-3) hosts Peabody Friday (7).

Amesbury 28, Lynnfield 18

Lynnfield (2-4) travels to Triton Friday (7).

Revere 44, Somerville 6

Revere (5-2) plays on the road at Lynn Classical Friday (5).

Rockland 33, Saugus 0

Saugus (0-7) hosts Winthrop Friday (7).
