School Sports Roundup: Swampscott girls soccer takes down Winthrop

The Swampscott girls soccer team earned yet another win on its home turf at Blocksidge Field Thursday afternoon, taking down Northeastern Conference foe Winthrop by a score of 4-0. 

Sophie DiGrande scored two goals to lead the offensive attack for the Big Blue, while Mia Schena notched one goal and one assist. Victoria Quagrello scored one goal, while Laine Foutes had two assists and Anna Loguidice had one assist. 

Swampscott (10-3-4) closes out its regular season Saturday evening (5:30) on the road at Danvers. 

Winthrop wraps up its season at 4-11-1.

GIRLS SOCCER

Lynn Tech 2, Minuteman 1

Helen Pojoy scored both goals in the win for the Tigers, while Sandy Garcia, Maria Barrios and Esther Nwokeji all played well. 

Tech (5-12) closes out its season Saturday (4) against KIPP.

Masconomet 2, Marblehead 0

Marblehead finishes the regular season at 13-4-1 and awaits its seeding in the upcoming state tournament.

Bishop Fenwick 1, Bishop Stang 1

Fenwick finishes the regular season at 8-0-7 and now looks ahead to the state tournament.

BOYS SOCCER

Lynn Tech 4, Nashoba 0

Tech wraps up the regular season at 12-3-1 and awaits its seeding in the upcoming state tournament.

Winthrop 1, Swampscott 0

Damian Vidal scored the deciding goal for the Vikings on an assist from Ryan Kfoury. Goalkeeper Mateo Martinez earned the shutout win in net. 

Winthrop finishes the regular season at 10-6-2 and will now look ahead to the state tournament.

Swampscott wraps up its season at 4-10-3.

Masconomet 1, Marblehead 0

Marblehead wraps up the season at 8-6-3 and awaits its seeding in the upcoming state tournament.

Danvers 3, Salem 0

Salem wraps up the season at 1-14-0.

FIELD HOCKEY

Danvers 3, Lynnfield 1

Lynnfield finishes the regular season at 7-6-5 and awaits its seeding in the upcoming state tournament. 

Marblehead 4, Saugus 0

Grace MacLean and Jane O’Neil each scored two goals in the win for the Magicians, while Lane Kaeyer and Kate Bickell each had one assist. Goalie Maggie Beauchene had three saves in the shutout win, while Peighton Ridge and Mia Carr also played well.

Marblehead (8-8-1) plays on the road at Peabody Friday (4) for its season finale.

VOLLEYBALL

Notre Dame Academy 3, Lynn Tech 2

Tech wraps up its season at 6-7.

Peabody 3, Winthrop 0

The Tanners won their season finale by set scores of 25-15, 25-10, 25-9. 

Sarah Broughton and Lauryn Mendonca had big offensive games with eight kills each, while Abby Bettencourt and Isabel Bettencourt both had huge games with 26 assists apiece. Elayna Capone added three aces in the victory.

Peabody finishes the season at 15-4 and will now prepare for the state tournament. 

Marblehead 3, Swampscott 0

The Magicians won by set scores of 25-7, 25-11, 25-17. 

Keira Thompson led the offensive attack with nine kills, while Nicolette Teti notched four kills. Julia Potvin and Tamya Johnson combined for 17 assists in the win, while Caitlin Parkman had seven digs. 

Marblehead (13-4) closes out its regular season Friday (6:30) against Wakefield. 

Swampscott (5-13) travels to Lynn Classical Friday (5:30) for its season finale.

St. Mary’s 3, Bishop Stang 2

St. Mary’s (7-12) takes on Archbishop Williams in its season finale Friday (1).

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Lynn Classical at GBL League Meet

Kevin Baker was the top finisher for the Rams in the boys race, placing 16th out of 50 runners with a time of 16:23. 

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Lynn Classical at GBL League Meet

Mia Kebreau earned a medal after finishing 10th overall out of 39 runners in the girls race. Kebreau finished with a time of 20:59.
