Letter: Darren Cyr for mayor

The Editors

October 29, 2021 by The Editors

To the editor:

I believe Darren Cyr should be our next mayor. Nov. 2 will be the most important election in the city in recent years. The citizens of Lynn, not any outside influence, will need to make a choice about who is best to lead our city for the next four years.

Darren Cyr has been a city councilor  for 16 years. He brings experience, leadership, vision, and love for this city, which we need now — not 10 years from now.

As council president working along with the fellow councilors and the mayor’s office to move the city forward for the good of its citizens, Cyr has built a consensus among council members.

He has kept an open mind, always thinking of all Lynn citizens’ needs, and he has worked under pressure to improve the city. He has been deeply involved in the improvement process and he knows more needs to be done.

He has worked hard to get the Thurgood Marshall Middle School — a model school — built. As ward councilor, he has always responded to his constituents’ needs. Speed-limit signs, rotted tree removal, abandoned and blighted homes are some of the problems he has addressed, along with providing ice to residents who lost power.

He has fielded snow-removal complaints, rat problems, potholes and cleared streets blocked by snow during storms so that emergency vehicles could get through.

On the issues of development, affordable housing, police working with mental-health professionals and schools, both mayoral candidates essentially want the same for the city.

The difference between the candidates may lie in the way Darren Cyr is perceived. His answers to questions are short and to the point: He tells you how it is, without any political spin.

The mayor’s job is not 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Darren Cyr will not tell you what you want to hear; he will tell you the truth and only the truth. That is who he is.

Darren is a lifelong Lynn resident who has devoted 16 years of service to this great city. His dedication and experience make him more than qualified to step in on day one and work with the council and all city agencies for the good of all Lynn citizens.

There is no doubt Darren Cyr is the clear choice to lead Lynn as our next mayor for the next four years.
