LYNN — The Lynn English football team had things clicking on both offense and defense Saturday afternoon, rolling to a 60-8 win over Somerville in a Greater Boston League bout at Manning Field in the regular season finale for both teams.

Wide receiver Josh MacDonald may have had the biggest overall game for the Bulldogs, catching two touchdown passes on offense and intercepting two passes on defense — as well as returning one of those interceptions for a touchdown. Running back Wesley Chandler rushed for two touchdowns in the win, while quarterback Jesse Maggs threw three touchdown passes. Wide receiver Shea Palmer caught one touchdown pass and rushed for another.

The Bulldogs came out with a heavy dose of the power running attack to start the game, punching in their first two scores on the ground, courtesy of a seven-yard run from Chandler and an 11-yard run from Palmer. After Maggs hit Palmer for a 25-yard touchdown with 41 seconds to go in the first, English found itself with a 22-0 lead.

After Chandler scored his second touchdown of the day midway through the second quarter, Somerville was able to get on the board via a touchdown pass from Victor Nathan Santiago to Guensley Louis to make it 30-8. But English came right back and scored again, as Maggs opened things up and found McDonald on a 62-yard scoring play to put the Bulldogs ahead, 36-8, at the halftime break.

The Bulldogs continued to control things in the second half, as McDonald caught another touchdown and added a pick-six to continue extending the lead.

English closes the regular season at 3-4 and is hoping to make the top 16 in the Division 3 state tournament.
