LYNN — The Lynn Tech football team closed out its regular season with a bang Saturday morning, knocking off Minuteman Tech by a score of 44-6 at Manning Field. The second quarter proved to be the difference for the Tigers, who scored 24 points in the frame to blow the game open before halftime.
Tech quarterback Tyler David rushed for two touchdowns in the victory for the Tigers, while Domenic Giordano rushed for one touchdown.
The first quarter belonged to David, who made a number of big plays to help put Tech ahead. It started when he punched one in with 7:44 to go in the first to make it 8-0; then he came back with a long run to bring the Tigers inside the Minuteman five-yard line on Tech’s next offensive possession. Two plays later, he scored on a four-yard run for his second touchdown of the day.
Minuteman took advantage of a Tech fumble in between scoring drives, scooping the ball up and taking it to the house to get on the scoreboard.
But that was the last time Minuteman would see the end zone, as the Tech defense clamped down and the offense continued to ramp things up.
The Tigers went on to force a fumble and get a quick score from Giordano to go up 22-6, then back-to-back rapid-fire touchdowns within 37 seconds of each other gave the Tigers a 38-6 lead at the halftime break.
After one more touchdown in the third quarter, the Tigers were able to coast to victory in the season finale.
Tech closes the regular season at 3-4 and is hoping to make the top 16 in the Division 8 state tournament.
