LYNN — Boundaries for select wards and precincts in the city will change due to significant growth in the population of Lynn.
The City Council approved a proposed map on Oct. 26, depicting which streets will transition to a different precinct and ward.
City Clerk Janet Rowe is working with Department of Public Works Commissioner Andrew Hall on the final descriptions of legal boundaries to submit to the Local Election Districts Review Commission for final approval.
If approved, the boundaries will be effective on Dec. 31.
Some changes include the current Ward 3 streets — Leavitt Place, most of Eutaw Avenue, Clarendon Avenue, Glenwood Street, Mabel Street, Wildemere Place and Choate Street — moving to Ward 2.
Parrot Street, which is currently Ward 2, and current Ward 4 streets Lafayette Park and Foster Street will be moving to Ward 3.
Rowe said these changes have been made to comply with the population increase due to the 2020 Census.
“We have been working with Michael Owens, who is the state re-precincting community-engagement director in the Secretary of State office,” Rowe said. “We will notify all residents upon completion of their new ward and precinct and we will revise our street index as soon as we receive confirmation from the state.”
According to the 2020 census, Lynn has a population of 101,253.
The target population for each precinct is 3,616, with a minimum population of 3,435 and a maximum of 3,797.
Each ward — wards 1 through 7 — consist of four precincts.
According to the new map, Ward 1, Precinct 2 has the lowest population, at 3,457, while Ward 4, Precinct 2 has the highest at 3,781.
