Tournament Roundup: Lynnfield volleyball rolls into Division 4 quarterfinal

The No. 2 Lynnfield Pioneers volleyball team will be moving on to the Division 4 quarterfinals as they defeated the No. 15 South Lancaster Academy Crusaders 3-0 (25-15, 28-26, 25-10) on Wednesday night.

The Pioneers improved as the match progressed, finding their form in the third and final set. Star junior Ella Gizmunt had 13 kills, while junior Grace Davie had eight kills.

With the win, Lynnfield (18-4) will face No. 7 Arlington Catholic in the Division 4 quarterfinal Friday afternoon (4) back at Lynnfield High School.

FIELD HOCKEY

Division 3 Round of 16

No. 5 Swampscott 4, No. 21 Medfield 1

The Big Blue continued its quest for a state championship, grabbing another win at Blocksidge Field.

Isabella Modica had a big game with two goals and one assist for the Big Blue, while Sydney Marshall scored two goals. Olivia Passalacqua, Olivia Baran and Lucy Brown each had one assist. Goalie Chloe Rakauskas notched five saves to earn the win in net. 

Swampscott (12-5-3) moves on to the Division 3 quarterfinal, where it will face No. 4 Triton Saturday morning (10).

BOYS SOCCER

Division 4 Round of 16

No. 6 West Bridgewater 1, No. 11 Lynn Tech 0 (2OT)

Despite a phenomenal game in net by Tech keeper Pedro Bamaca, West Bridgewater was able to sneak one by in the second overtime period to end the Tigers’ season.

Tech finishes the season at 13-5-1.

No. 3 Rockland 3, No. 14 Winthrop 2

Gustav Hemmingsen scored an early goal to put the Vikings ahead, but Rockland responded with three straight goals before halftime to take the lead. Despite a goal from Jeronimo Jimenez in the second half, the Vikings couldn’t make the complete comeback.

Winthrop closes out the season at 11-7-2.
