Letter: ‘Final Fridays’ a Lynn success story

The Editors

November 12, 2021 by The Editors

To the editor:

As Lynn Main Streets wraps up its second season of “Final Fridays,” we are grateful to our collaborating partners and sponsors for supporting the June-to-November downtown event series held on the last Friday of each month.

We are especially grateful to Lynn Museum/LynnArts for sharing in the Main Streets’ vision of a vibrant, welcoming downtown Lynn. Residents and visitors of all ages and backgrounds enjoyed the downtown atmosphere which came to life with spoken-word performances, live music, opportunities to view the work of local visual artists, and to patronize the many small businesses in Central Square.

Since the spring, the park adjacent to the Lynn Museum has evolved into a destination not only for planned community gatherings such as “Final Fridays,” but also as a public space for informal outdoor socializing.

Last year, the pandemic spurred the development of the Downtown Order Takeout System (DOTS), to encourage park visitors to support Lynn’s many eateries by ordering takeout from an easy-to-use phone app and to enjoy their meal in the park.

With the support of donors, foundations and our sponsors, Lynn Main Streets has cultivated several attractive outdoor spaces by adding bistro tables, colorful seasonal plantings and additional lighting.

Our thanks for the ongoing investment in a vibrant, welcoming downtown center goes to state Sen. Brendan Crighton, MassDevelopment TDI, the Barr Foundation, City of Lynn, Metropolitan Area Planning Council, MassDOT, the Downtown Lynn Cultural District, Lynn City Council, and to everyone who participated in “Final Fridays.” We look forward to so many more reasons to gather and celebrate downtown.

Joshua Judkins, board president
Lynn Main Streets
