After finishing off a stellar career on the course, Swampscott native and St. Mary’s senior golfer Aidan Emmerich was named the Catholic Central League MVP when the awards and all-stars were announced this weekend. It’s the third straight season that Emmerich has taken home the MVP honors.

Emmerich had an incredible senior year, shooting an eye-popping 32-under par for the season and notching 10 straight rounds under par. But he saved the best for last, shooting a course-record 61 (8-under par) at Hillview Golf Course to win the Catholic Central League individual championship on Oct. 15.

Emmerich made nine birdies and one bogey over the course of his 18-hole round, tearing up the par-69 course ― which plays to 5,773 yards.

Emmerich wraps up a stellar St. Mary’s career that saw him become a seven-year varsity starter, a member of three state championship teams, a three-time CCL MVP, a three-time CCL champion and a Division 2 North champion. He nearly came away with the Division 2 state championship this fall, but he finished one stroke behind fellow CCL all-star Max Hampoian (Austin Prep).

One other St. Mary’s golfer, Lynnfield native Sean Mathers, was named a CCL all-star.

The rest of the 2021 CCL all-star team for golf was Tony Novak, Leo Schroeder and Connor Cunningham (Bishop Fenwick); Chris Gerety, Zack Bova and Jonathan Burke (Austin Prep); Kyle Farias, Redmond Podkowa, Matt Oliveira and Matt Costello (Bishop Stang); Chad Correia, Matt Murray and Jimmy Kannally (Bishop Feehan); Andrew Marcotte, Will Cunniff and Quinn Cesarz (Archbishop Williams); Andrew Christopher, Tommy Peterson and Riley Reardon (Arlington Catholic); Jed Dorsey and Blake McSweeney (Cardinal Spellman); Mike Logiudice and Nick Advani (Matignon); and Matt Zolock and John D’Eramo (St. Joseph Prep).
