Thanksgiving Football Roundup: Bishop Fenwick closes with win over Malden Catholic

The Bishop Fenwick football team closed out its 2021 season on a winning note Thursday morning, knocking off Malden Catholic by a score of 35-23 on the road in the second Thanksgiving Day meeting between the two teams. 

Fenwick quarterback Steven Woods took home the Sal Tripoli MVP trophy following the game, throwing four touchdown passes in the victory — three of those coming in the first half. 

Fenwick finishes the season at 9-3.

FOOTBALL

Xaverian 36, St. John’s Prep 35

The Eagles fell in a heartbreaker on the road Thursday morning after having a chance to tie the game with an extra point or win it with a two-point conversion. The Prep chose the two-pointer, and Xaverian came up with a key strip sack to seal the win with 47 seconds remaining.

Jack Perry had another huge day for the Eagles, throwing four touchdown passes and running for another. Stephon Patrick had two touchdown receptions, including a 62-yarder in the first half, while Jackson Delaney and Jack Fillion each had one touchdown reception. 

St. John’s Prep finishes the season at 8-4.

Revere 16, Winthrop 13

After trailing 6-0 at halftime, the Patriots scored 16 points in the second half to pull out their fifth straight win in the annual rivalry series. 

Running back Davi Barreto and quarterback Anwar Marbouh each rushed for a touchdown in the win, with the other two points coming via a Winthrop safety.

Revere finishes the season at 8-2.

For Winthrop, Mikey Chaves had more than 100 yards receiving to go along with two touchdowns in the loss. Quarterback Robert Noonan threw both touchdown passes for the Vikings.

Winthrop finishes the season at 5-6.

Beverly 60, Salem 28

Beverly’s Andrew Schweizer returned the opening kick for a touchdown and the Witches played from behind the rest of the way Thursday morning at a packed Hurd Stadium. 

Quarterback Michael Ready had a solid day for the Witches with 219 passing yards and three touchdowns while adding a rushing touchdown as well. Quinn Rocco Ryan, Devante Ozuna and Corey Grimes each had one touchdown reception in the loss.

Salem finishes the season at 6-5.
